The National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) has an opening for the newly created position of director of international initiatives. This position is responsible for directing the association?s various programs and strategies for international students, covering the counseling, recruitment, enrollment, and ongoing support for foreign students at U.S. institutions of higher education, the enrollment of U.S. college students abroad, and the monitoring of policy developments affecting international student mobility.? This position reports directly to the CEO as part of the senior management team, working to execute NACAC?s strategic goals.? NACAC is an education association of more than 12,000 postsecondary and secondary schools, organizations, counselors, college admission and financial aid officers that work with students as they make the transition from high school to postsecondary education. - Assess the needs of NACAC members and member institutions, admission counseling professionals, and enrollment officials concerning international students.?
- Assist NACAC leadership in developing a strategy and policies to enable the organization to better support international students in an effective and ethical manner.
- Serve as a spokesperson for NACAC and its mission and values, especially on matters concerning international student recruitment and enrollment in institutions of higher education.
- Represent NACAC in discussions with educational officials from other nations and in international forums, occasionally requiring overseas travel.
- Serve as a liaison with international education experts, international student groups, U.S. and foreign government agencies, higher education institutions, and key partner and stakeholder organizations with an interest in international student recruitment and U.S. students studying abroad.
- Monitor policy developments, trends, and news events concerning international students and U.S. students studying abroad.
- Provide issue briefings and updates to NACAC leadership, staff and membership to help them stay informed about policy changes or other developments affecting international students and U.S. students studying abroad.
- Assist in the work of the Commission on International Student Recruitment and help to coordinate the dissemination of its report and to develop strategies to promote the implementation of its recommendations.
- Provide expertise and strategic advice to NACAC leadership on the full range of issues concerning international student mobility and U.S. students studying abroad.
- Make recommendations for professional development for college admissions professionals and counselors at the secondary and postsecondary levels on issues concerning international students and U.S. students studying abroad.
- Collaborate with NACAC committees and staff to develop new programs or changes in existing programs to better support international students.
- Serve as a member of NACAC senior management team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:
- Master?s degree or higher required.
- Major academic concentration in counseling, enrollment or university administration preferred.
? Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years? experience in international education and/or admissions.
- Successful track record in creating effective strategies to facilitate campus internationalization.?
- Experience in working with domestic and foreign government agencies concerned with international student mobility, international student exchanges, study abroad, and similar programs.
- Direct experience in working with international students and their families to serve their academic needs.
? ? Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the factors affecting the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of international students at U.S. colleges and universities, as well as policies and practices concerning U.S. students studying abroad.?
- Exceptional communications skills, including public speaking and written communications.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of Federal policies and requirements affecting foreign students at U.S. institutions at the secondary and postsecondary level.?
- Knowledge of policies and requirements affecting U.S. students studying abroad.
- Knowledge of the basic principles of college admission and admission counseling.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and create partnerships with various government organizations, institutions of higher education, professional organizations, and other groups serving international students.
