Connect with Journal sports on Facebook

EDMONTON - We?re all aboard!

I?m pleased to announce all of us in the Edmonton Journal sports department are a part of our new Facebook page. Everybody, including longtime NHL writer Jim Matheson to columnist John MacKinnon and sports writer Evan Daum.

Putting one up was an easy decision to make, and the reasons to have one are simple: A lot of you are on Facebook, and we want to connect with you.

It?s online right now, and the timing, I think, is pretty darn good. There?s an Eskimos-Stampeders pre-season game Friday night in Calgary, and Esks writer Chris O?Leary will chat with you about the game (and about the tuneup home tilt next week against the B.C. Lions, too.)

The Donovan Bailey Invitational ? featuring a truckload of athletes who will be competing at the London Olympics, which start next month ? goes Saturday at Foote Field. MacKinnon and Daum will be there for the Journal ? and they?ll be talking about it on Facebook, too.

Cam Tait will also chime in Saturday from Telus Field, where the Prospects are taking on the Okotoks Dawgs in a weekend set.

Next week, Oilers stars Jordan Eberle and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins will find out if they?ll be bringing home, respectively, the Lady Byng and Calder trophies at the NHL awards show in Las Vegas. Matheson will be there for the event Wednesday, and he?ll be conversing with you about all that?s going on.

Curtis Stock will be on scene starting Thursday at the Windermere Golf and Country Club for the ATB Financial Classic, the Canadian Tour?s Alberta stop this year.

Oh, and there?s that draft thing. You know, the one where the Oilers will pick first overall (unless they trade it in the meantime)? The Journal?s Joanne Ireland will be in Pittsburgh for that ? the NHL Entry Draft ? to see if the Oilers dare to take Nail Yakupov next Friday. She?ll be jawing about it on Facebook, too.

There?s lots to talk about. What do you want to talk about?

Join us ? ?like? us ? on Facebook and let?s get the conversation going.
